The  appointment  is  a  management  contract  as  lead  consultant  of  the professional  team.  I was involved from the beginning when ground clearance/demolition,  gas  extraction  until  to  the  completion stages  E to  stage  L.

The  site  is  2.4ha  on  the  south  bank  of  the  Thames. Designated Brownfield site located  on  land formerly  occupied  by  a  gas  works  and hence  requiring  large quantities  of  contaminated  material  to be removed. The  scheme  proposals  meet the  policies  set  down  by  the government  in  PPG1,  in  terms  of  sustainable mixed-use  development as well  more  specific  guidelines  provided  within  the Thames Strategy.

Site  specific  planning  brief  for  the  development  was  building  to a maximum  of eight  storeys  and provide  for  residential  development  of 440  units  and  1100 habitable  rooms.

The  site  is  to  provide  a  mixture  of  recreation,  commercial  and  residential features  to  make  it  as far  as  possible  self-contained  and  yet accessible to  the public  with  regard  to  river  access.

The  idea  was  to  create  a  “street” running  from  Smugglers  Way  to  the riverside walk  and  a  public piazza  with  restaurants  and  shops  at  ground  level

Some  of  the  balconies  on  this  job  were  very  long  cantilevered  and during construction  balconies  started  wobbling  and  It  was  a  valuable experience  to follow  and  learned  how  this  problem  is  rectified  in collaboration  with structural engineers,  site  project  manager  and  as  the  architects.
